Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited cases in which another service may receive it. By using Henrico County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that provides that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or stored copy of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and manage the correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive basic technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Device type and operating system
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Referring site, when one is supplied
  • Browser name and version
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help produce combined traffic measures, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
  • Operating the site and improving page speed
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
  • Routing a submitted query to the selected search provider
  • Measuring which material is useful and where changes may help

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Henrico County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It describes how to use Henrico Police, Sheriff and court channels, the Virginia State Police repository, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a report about another person. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information entered there. Those practices are beyond our control, so review the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Henrico County offices, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check those terms before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. It may be available to:

  • Analytics services that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process a query you submit
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on these pages

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, it may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights over personal data. Virginia public access to government records is governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while criminal-history dissemination is separately limited by Virginia Code § 19.2-389. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Opt out of certain processing where that right applies
  • Request deletion of personal data where required
  • Ask to correct inaccurate personal information
  • Request access to personal information held about you

Updates to This Policy
